Texas Lutheran Men trail Trinity by six points after day one of SCAC Championships

SEGUIN, Texas -- After seven events Saturday at TLU's Bulldog Stadium, Texas Lutheran Men's Track & Field trails Trinity by six points in the team title race at the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships.
 
Trinity scored 87 points. TLU put up 81. The two teams are well ahead of the four other conference teams in attendance.
 
The TLU Men won conference titles in the shot put (Scottie Reyes), hammer throw (Zachary Herman), and the 200-meter dash (Ezrael Powell).
 
With Reyes leading the way, the Bulldogs took places 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 in the shot put - scoring 25 points in the one event. Herman was second in the shot put.
 
Reyes posted a mark of 15.74 meters (51 feet, 7.75 inches) in the shot. Herman registered a toss of 14.90 (48-10.75).
 
In the hammer, Herman led the Bulldog throwers to finishes of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th - for 27 points in the event. Reyes was third in the hammer.
 
Herman's winning hammer throw went 45.97 (150-10). Jalen Starks was second, at 43.47 (142-7).
 
Reyes is a freshman from Dilley, Texas. Herman is a freshman from Austin, Texas.
 
Powell, a sophomore from San Antonio, won the 200 by .01 over Drew Bullinger of Trinity. Powell crossed the line in 22.09. Bullinger finished in 22.10.
 
TLU went 1-4-5 in the 200. With Powell in first, Josiah Damiano and Ralph Miller collected fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
The SCAC Track & Field Championships conclude Sunday. The first men's track event is the men's 5,000-meter final at 9 a.m. The first men's field event is the men's long jump at 9 a.m.
