Jefferson, Twitero Compete at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

BIRMINGHAM, AL -- After a record breaking indoor season, Texas Lutheran men's track and field sent two entries to the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships to represent TLU in their respective events at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. Elijah Jefferson (San Antonio/Construction Careers Academy) competed in the 200m dash while Gerrit Twitero (McQueeney/Seguin) competed in the high jump with aspirations of being named All-Americans and individual national champions.

Jefferson ran in the 200m dash preliminaries Friday evening and clocked in at 22.02 seconds missing the cut established by the top eight of 21.60 seconds.

Twitero jumped Saturday evening - claiming a mark of 1.98m to finish 15th amongst the nation's best.

While neither competitor earned All-America honors this weekend, both Jefferson and Twitero earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors earlier this week in recognition of their spectacular performances this season.

Coach Holland's Comments: "Definitely not where we wanted to finish for either athlete. Both were disappointed. I think they were able to get a taste of what it's like at the national level and are better prepared for the future. I know they are both hungry for qualifying in outdoor track & field and having a shot at proving themselves. They are both very talented and I can't wait to see them shine at the national level later this outdoor season."

Texas Lutheran track and field now turns its full attention to outdoor season and its lone home meet of the 2023 season with the D3 Challenge on March 25.
