Mackenzie Payne Named SCAC Runner of the Week

SEGUIN, Texas -- Mackenzie Payne (Celina/Frisco Heritage) of the Texas Lutheran women's cross country program was named the fourth Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Runner of the Week for the 2022 season after a 12th place finish at the Concordia Cross Country Classic on Sept. 23, the league office announced Tuesday.

At the Concordia (Texas) Classic, Payne was the second SCAC finisher in the largely D3-laden meet with the only other conference finisher ahead of her being her own teammate, Caeli Taylor (Tilden/McMullen County). She was the third overall D3 finisher and 11th behind D2 and NAIA teams. Her time was 23:32 over the significantly short 6K course.

This is Payne's first SCAC Runner of the Week honor of her career and Texas Lutheran's second weekly honor of the 2022 season following Caeli Taylor winning the honor in week two.

Texas Lutheran men's and women's cross country will compete in the UIW Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 1, with the women's race starting at 8:35 AM and the men's meet starting at 8 AM.
