Cross Country Competes in Dual Meet with Southwestern

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran cross country followed Friday night's race at UIW with a dual meet with fellow SCAC member Southwestern early Saturday morning at Park West in Seguin, Texas.

WOMEN'S RECAP

In the women's 5K, Kristin Lucero (San Antonio/Brennan) led the way finishing third in a field of 11 runners with a time of 21:08.7. Freshmen LeeAndrea Canas (Corpus Christi/West Oso), Aaliyah Leal (Ingleside/Aransas Pass), and Alexis Albert (Falls City/Falls City) finished 5th-7th in the field with Julia Maciel (San Antonio/Highlands) rounding out the top five for the Bulldogs with a time of 25.12.2.

MEN'S RECAP

Freshman Cole Schuetz (Corpus Christi/London) led the Bulldogs with a time of 17:20.5 for a 5th place finish. Kevin Vazquez-Arredondo (Austin/Del Valle) tallied a 7th place finish in a field of 15 runners with a time of 18:23.2.

DaMante McBride (Pflugerville/Home School) crossed with a time of 18:36.5 to finish ninth.

Matthew Hoffmann (San Antonio/Clark) and Ryan Hernandez (Dallas/Uplift Peak Preparatory) rounded out the top five for the Bulldogs. As a team, the Bulldogs averaged a time of 18:29.

Coach Holland's comments: "We ran a few of our top runners at UIW last night, so this gave the whole team a chance to get a race in early right here in Seguin. The temperatures were a little hot and humid at 8:30 a.m., but that didn't stop both teams from racing well. Southwestern ran great, and we were right in the thick of it. I know we have work to do to be ready as we move forward, but getting a little taste of competition definitely helped spark a fire! We are looking forward to our upcoming races! It was also so great to host here in Seguin so that we could get the TLU supporters out! Even Talulah the Bulldog was in attendance! The Splash Pad at Park West was a fun activity to do after the race as well. It was a great morning!"
