Bulldogs Open Season With UIW Twilight

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Kicking off the 2022 season, the Texas Lutheran cross country team participated in the UIW Twilight hosted by University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday night. The field hosted teams from across NCAA divisions from the state of Texas. The men's field hosted UIW, Our Lady of the Lake, UT-Rio Grande Valley, North Texas, Trinity, Texas San Antonio, Texas State, and Texas A&M - Kingsville. The women's field hosted Incarnate Word, UTSA, Trinity, UT-Rio Grande Valley, Our Lady of the Lake, and North Texas.

WOMEN'S RECAP

In the women's 4K, it was Caeli Taylor (Tilden/McMullen County) leading the way finishing 47th in a field of 70 runners with a time of 16:29.8. Mackenzie Payne (Celina/Frisco Heritage), following right behind Taylor, finished 55th with a time of 16:46.4. Following Taylor was freshman Emma Etzler (Hallettsville/Hallettsville) posting a time of 16:59.0.

Christina Jaramillo  (Port Lavaca/Calhoun) and Brenna Iannelli (La Grange/La Grange) rounded out the top 5 for the Bulldogs.

MEN'S RECAP

The meet was highlighted by freshman Lucas Falcon (Victoria/Victoria East) who broke the Texas Lutheran men's 6K record in his first collegiate meet with a time of 21:10.9.

Following Falcon was Carlos Cura (Midkiff/Rankin) who crossed in 21:24.9.

Koby Green (San Antonio/Clark), Gabriel Ceballos (San Antonio/Smithson Valley), and Isaiah Arriaga (Sugar Land/Dulles) wrapped the top five for the Bulldogs as the Bulldogs top five finishers averaged a time of 21:57.

Coach Holland's comments: "This meet was a good gauge for where we are in our training. Got some work to do but we'll get where we need to be at the end of the season. Congrats to freshman Lucas Falcon for breaking the men's 6K record."
