Bulldogs Fall to Austin College in SCAC Quarterfinals

SHERMAN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball dropped a four-set match to Austin College, 25-20, 16-25, 17-25, 21-25, Friday morning at Hughey Gymnasium on the campus of Austin College in the SCAC Tournament Quarterfinals.

Austin College hit .226 in the match while the Bulldogs hit .188. The 'Roos were able to take advantage of 30 errors by the Bulldogs on Friday.

Senior Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) led the Bulldogs with 12 kills and 16 digs, while Nadia Dunn (Houston/Pearland) and Ryann Ely (Montgomery/Concordia Lutheran) joined her with double digit kills, finishing with 11 and ten kills respectively.

Senior setter Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) dished out 27 assists and tallied eight digs while Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) nearly missed a triple-double in her final collegiate match, finishing with eight kills, 14 assists, and 16 digs. Respondek ends her collegiate career with 1,571 digs, finishing sixth all-time in program history. Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) had a team-high 38 digs. Coldewey ends her collegiate career third in program history in digs per set (5.32), while her 2024 total of 6.31 digs per set ranks third best in program history in a single-season.

The first set was tightly contested with neither team able to get a decisive advantage early on before the Bulldogs won the set 25-20.

The 'Roos came alive in front of their home crowd to dominate the next two sets to take a 2-1 lead.

The Bulldogs showed some fight in the fourth set as they looked to keep their season alive before the 'Roos put the Bulldogs away with a 25-21 fourth set win.

The Bulldogs finish the season with a 19-8 overall record. The 2024 season saw the Bulldogs reach double digit SCAC wins for the third consecutive season, finishing 11-3 in SCAC play. The Bulldogs  - a team picked to finish third in the preseason poll - conclude the 2024 season with a 19-8 record, going 11-3 in the SCAC to claim third place in their division in the regular season. Texas Lutheran ends their season leading NCAA Division-III in digs per set (21.82) and finishing fourth in attacks per set (40.75).

The Bulldogs graduate four seniors - Brylie Nedd, Faith Coldewey, Shavonne Respondek, and Julia Chew - all members of the 2022 SCAC Championship team. We thank them for all of their contributions to the Texas Lutheran volleyball program.
