Volleyball Defeats St. Thomas in Four Sets
AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball extended their win streak to five matches with a four-set win over St. Thomas, 25-17, 25-16, 14-25, 26-24, on Saturday at Concordia Fieldhouse on the campus of Concordia University.
Ryann Ely (Montgomery/Concordia Lutheran) finished with a team-high 11 kills and added a block. Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) added eight kills on a .583 hitting percentage and led the team with three blocks. Nadia Dunn (Houston/Pearland) also finished with eight kills while Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) finished with a team-high 33 digs, seven assists, and three service aces.
Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) dished out a team-high 22 assists along with 26 digs for yet another double-double while Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) added a double-double of her own with 18 assists and 12 digs.
Texas Lutheran rolled in the first set using an 11-5 run to pull away from the Celts for a 25-17 win with the Bulldogs hitting .381 in the set. Ely led the way with five kills and .417 hitting percentage.
TLU grabbed a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-16 win in the second set.
St. Thomas battled back in the third set, limiting TLU to a .024 hitting percentage to send the match to a fourth set.
Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) took over in the fourth set, racking up five of her seven kills on the day in the final set to lead Texas Lutheran to a 26-24 win.
