Volleyball Falls to No. 17 Southwestern in Five Sets

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball dropped a tough five-set match to No. 17 Southwestern, 25-16, 25-16, 25-27, 21-25, 7-15, on Saturday at the Robertson Center in Georgetown.

The Bulldogs will play their final non-conference match of the season on Friday, Oct. 25, at 3:30 PM against Randolph-Macon on the campus of Trinity University in San Antonio. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.

Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) finished with a team-high 14 kills, while Ryann Ely (Montgomery/Concordia Lutheran) and Nadia Dunn (Houston/Pearland) finished with 11 kills each. Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) added nine kills on a .471 hitting percentage and three aces. Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) and Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) both finished with double-doubles with both having 25 assists with Chew finishing with 15 digs while Respondek added 12 digs of her own. Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) led the Bulldogs with 25 digs.

Texas Lutheran held a slim 12-11 lead in the first set before going on a 6-0 run to pull away from the Pirates. Both teams hit well in the opening set, but the Bulldogs would hold the advantage hitting .351.

The Bulldogs rolled to a 2-0 lead in the match with another 25-16 win in the second set. TLU finished with two blocks and two aces in the set and was led by Nedd's five kills offensively.

Texas Lutheran got out to a 17-13 lead in the third set before Southwestern went on a 9-3 run to take a 22-20 lead. The Bulldogs came back to take a 24-23 lead but came up short in the end to continue the match.

Southwestern carried the momentum into the fourth set and forced a fifth set with a 25-21 win.

The Pirates got out to another early lead in the fifth set and put the match away with a 15-7 win.
