Volleyball Sweeps Centenary
ABILENE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran volleyball won their sixth straight match with a sweep of Centenary College, 25-20, 25-10, 25-17, Saturday evening at Kimbrell Arena on the campus of McMurry University.
The Bulldogs (12-5, 5-1 SCAC) rolled to their third SCAC sweep and seventh overall of the season.
Regan Schmidt (Seguin/Seguin) and Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) led the Bulldogs with ten kills each with Schmidt finishing with a match-high .556 hitting percentage. Nedd added 13 digs and a block for her eighth double-double of the 2024 season. Ryann Ely (Montgomery/Concordia Lutheran) finished with nine kills.
Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) finished with 16 assists and six digs. Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) had 11 digs and 11 assists for her 13th double-double while Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) led the Bulldogs with 19 digs and three service aces. With the 19-dig performance, Coldewey surpassed 1,000 digs in her career.
Texas Lutheran cruised through their first of two matches on Saturday, leading for all but the opening point of the third set. The Bulldogs pulled away early in the first set to win 25-20 led by six kills from Ryann Ely.
TLU used an explosive 14-0 run to start the second set before securing the 25-10 second set win as three aces from Coldewey and four kills from Nadia Dunn (Houston/Pearland) highlighted the dominant set.
The Bulldogs closed out the sweep with a 25-17 win in the third set as Regan Schmidt helped put the match away with six kills in the final set.
The Bulldogs face the University of Dallas Crusaders for their final match of the weekend tonight at 7 PM in Abilene.
