Volleyball Sweeps McMurry

ABILENE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball swept its second straight match and its third in their last four matches with a 3-0 win over McMurry, 25-20, 25-15, 25-15, on Friday at Kimbrell Arena in Abilene.

Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) led the Bulldogs with 11 kills and adding seven digs and an assist. Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) was extremely efficient with eight kills on just 13 swings, while adding six digs.

Ryann Ely (Montgomery/Concordia Lutheran) and Zaria Solis (Burnet/Burnet) both finished with seven kills, while Solis led the team with two toals blocks. Nadia Dunn (Houston/Pearland) chipped in six kills and Andie Lozano-Lomeli (Brownsville/Pace) had four kills and a block.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) dished out 20 assists and Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) handed out 17 assists and finished with 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) finished with a team-high 15 digs. Respondek, Chew, and Coldewey finished with two service aces each.

Texas Lutheran started the match with a 6-2 run and never looked back. McMurry battled back to tie the opening set at 12 before the Bulldogs were able to recreate the early separation of the set and put the set away 25-20.

The second set was all Bulldogs as they won it 25-15 to grab a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set was reminiscent of the second set as TLU started the set on a 10-3 before putting the match away with a 25-15 win.

Texas Lutheran will conclude their Abilene SCAC Divisional trip on Saturday with matches against Centenary and Dallas. Texas Lutheran will face Centenary at 4 PM Saturday evening before facing Dallas Saturday night at 7 PM with both matches set to take place at Kimbrell Arena in Abilene.
