Volleyball Rallies Past Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball rallied after dropping the first set to beat Schreiner, 16-25, 25-16, 25-11, 25-12, Saturday afternoon at Stephens Family Arena in Kerrville.

The Bulldogs (9-5, 3-1 SCAC) shook off a slow start to finish with a .203 hitting percentage while holding the Mountaineers to a .066 hitting percentage.

Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) had her seventh double-double of the season with 15 kills and 12 digs and added two blocks, while Ryann Ely (Montgomery/Concordia Lutheran) shared the team lead with 15 kills of her own, a career-high for the junior outside hitter.

Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) added five kills and four blocks, Nadia Dunn (Houston/Pearland) had five kills and Andie Lozano-Lomeli (Brownsville/Pace) finished with four kills, four digs, and a block.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) had yet another double-double with 32 digs and 22 assists to go along with four kills and two blocks. Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) had 26 digs, five assists, and an ace while Richelle Guerra (Brownsville/Rivera) finished with 21 digs and a match-high three service aces.

The first set saw the Mountaineers pounce on the Bulldogs, starting the match with a 12-4 run and never turning back as the Mountaineers took the opener 25-16. The Bulldogs only hit .020 and with eight attack errors in the first set, while Schreiner hit .195.

Texas Lutheran got off to a slow start in the second set before rattling off a 13-3 run to grab a 17-11 lead. From there it was all Bulldogs and cruised to a 25-16 win while hitting .325 in the set. Ely led the way with five kills in the set.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the third set and maintained it throughout, taking a 2-1 lead with a 25-11 win. Ely had six kills with a .429 hitting percentage to lead TLU in the set.

Schreiner put up a fight to start the fourth set before TLU pulled away to close it out 25-12. Nedd tallied five kills on a .357 hitting percentage to close out the match.

The Bulldogs will travel to Austin on Wednesday, Oct. 2, to face Huston-Tillotson in non-conference action with the match slated to start at 6 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
