Volleyball Beats Schreiner, 3-1

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball picked up its first conference win of 2024, taking down Schreiner in four sets, 25-22, 21-25, 25-17, 25-20, on Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs (7-5, 1-1 SCAC) will square off with Concordia (TX) on Friday, Sept. 27, at 6 PM in Austin with the match broadcast on FloSports. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.

Texas Lutheran had 13 total blocks to finish with double-digit blocks for the second time this season.

Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) finished with 18 kills and 13 digs for her sixth double-double of the season, while hitting .383. She also added two blocks.

Zaria Solis (Burnet/Burnet) had a career-high 14 kills along with three blocks while Ryann Ely (Montgomery/Concordia Lutheran) finished with nine kills and two blocks. Andie Lozano-Lomeli (Brownsville/Pace) had six kills and a career-high nine blocks, including four solo blocks. The nine blocks tie for the fifth most in a single-match in program history and are the most in a single match for the Bulldogs since Madison Weisinger's nine blocks on October 19, 2022 against Our Lady of the Lake.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) and Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) both notched double-doubles on Saturday. Both dished out 22 assists with Respondek finishing with 17 digs, two kills and an ace while Chew finished with 16 digs and two aces.

Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) led the team with 26 digs, while Richelle Guerra (Brownsville/Rivera) had nine digs and Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) added eight digs in addition to three blocks and two aces.

After trailing 14-9, Texas Lutheran utilized a 9-1 run to take an 18-15 lead before finishing off the first set with a 25-22 win. Solis led the way with six kills in the opening set while Lozano-Lomeli had three blocks.

Texas Lutheran dropped the second set 25-21 as the Mountaineers were able to hold off a late set rally from the Bulldogs.

It was all TLU in the third set as they rolled to a 25-17 win in the third set. Solis and Nedd had five kills each in the third set while Lozano-Lomeli had two solo blocks.

The Bulldogs put the match away with a 25-20 win in the fourth set as Brylie Nedd led the way with four kills and Solis and Lozano-Lomeli totaled three blocks each.
