Volleyball Falls to #RV Wisconsin-Platteville in Five Sets
DELAWARE, OH -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball dropped the third match of the 2024 Bishop Invitational to #RV Wisconsin-Platteville in five sets on Friday at Branch Rickey Arena in Delaware, Ohio.
The Bulldogs (5-4) turn their attention to their final match in the 2024 Bishop Invitational against Albion on Saturday at 9:30 AM CST/10:30 AM EST. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) and Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) both recorded double-doubles in the match. Nedd finished with a team-high 13 kills and had 11 digs, while Respondek had 17 assists and 16 digs in addition to six kills. Nedd found herself etching her name into the TLU volleyball record book with 78 total attacks on the night, the fifth most in a single-match in program history and the most since the Bulldogs joined the SCAC.
Andie Lozano-Lomeli (Brownsville/Pace) posted a career-high 11 kills and two blocks, while hitting .308 in the match.
Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) finished with a team-high 28 digs and added six assists and two aces, also leading the Bulldogs.
Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) finished with a career-high seven blocks (one solo) while Zaria Solis (Burnet/Burnet) matched her career-high with six blocks (one solo).
The Pioneers dominated the first set, taking the first set 25-11. The Pioneers were able to limit the Bulldogs to a -.121 hitting percentage.
Texas Lutheran held on for a close 25-22 win in the second set to tie the match 1-1. Nedd led the team with five kills in the second set and Powell added a team-high three blocks.
TLU grabbed a 2-1 lead in the match with a 29-27 win in the third set. Despite trailing for a majority of the set, the Bulldogs were able to battle back to tie the set 25-25 before overtaking the Pioneers. Lozano-Lomeli led TLU with five kills and a block in the set.
Wisconsin-Platteville tied the match 2-2 with a 25-21 win in the fourth set, pulling away from the Bulldogs after the set was tied 15-all midway through the set.
Texas Lutheran jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the fifth set before the Pioneers used a 7-1 run to overtake the Bulldogs 10-7. The undefeated Pioneers were able to put the match away with a 15-9 win.
