Volleyball Bounces Back with Sweep of Heidelberg

DELAWARE, OH -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball bounced back with a sweep of Heidelberg, 25-18, 25-20, 25-16, on Friday evening at Branch Rickey Arena in Delaware, Ohio on day two of the Bishop Invitational.

Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) led the team with 11 kills and added 14 digs and two assists for her third double-double in her last four matches. Ryann Ely (Montgomery/Concordia Lutheran) finished with nine kills while Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) had seven kills, hitting .429, while adding a team-high three aces and two blocks. Regan Schmidt (Seguin/Seguin) finished with six kills, two digs and a block.

Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Falls) dished out 16 assists, while also finishing with 10 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) nearly mirrored Chew's stat line, finishing with 15 assists and 10 digs while adding two kills. Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) had a team-high 20 digs and finished with five assists and an ace.

The Bulldogs rolled to a 25-18 win in the opening set led by four kills from Regan Schmidt. After the match started with a 7-6 score in TLU's favor, the Bulldogs jumped out to an 18-12 lead and never looked back.

Texas Lutheran fought through a tighter second set to pick up a 25-20 win and a 2-0 lead in the match. Brylie Nedd dominated the second set with six kills.

Heidelberg kept the third set close early on as the Bulldogs only held a 14-13 advantage through the midway point of the set. The Bulldogs would go on an 11-3 run to close out the match and the sweep.

Texas Lutheran will have a quick turn around as they immediately play #RV Wisconsin-Platteville at 6 PM CST/7 PM EST.
