Volleyball Falls to #RV East Texas Baptist

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran volleyball dropped their final match of the 2024 Trinity Fall Classic to #RV East Texas Baptist, a 2023 NCAA Tournament qualifier who narrowly missed cracking the preseason AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, 3-1, on Saturday at Calgaard Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs (1-2) will travel to Southwestern University for the SU Invitational on Friday, September 6, opening the weekend with a matchup against Illinois Tech at 3:30 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.

Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) led the Bulldogs with 19 kills, matching her career-high, while Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) and Nadia Dunn (Houston/Pearland) had nine kills each. Zaria Solis (Burnet/Burnet) had five kills and four blocks.

Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) had a team-high 26 digs. Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) finished with 16 digs and 21 assists for her third straight double-double to start the season while Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) had 22 assists and 11 digs for her second double-double of the season.

Texas Lutheran started slow in the first set as ETBU jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead before the Bulldogs battled back to bring it to a score of 21-22. The Tigers would take the opening set 25-21.

The two teams would go back and forth to start the second set before the Tigers would stretch out to a 21-16 lead before taking the second set 25-23.

The Bulldogs battled back to take the third set, 25-18, avoiding the sweep in the process. Texas Lutheran hit a match-best .241 in the third set, never hitting above .190 in the other three sets. The Bulldogs were led by Brylie Nedd's three kills and three blocks from Zaria Solis.

The fourth and final set saw the Tigers once again jump out to a big lead on the Bulldogs, taking an 11-3 lead to start the set. The Bulldogs would battle back to bring the set to a score of 20-19 in the Tigers favor before the Tigers pulled away to win the set and the match.

Upon the conclusion of the tournament, Brylie Nedd would be named to the All-Tournament Team.
