Bulldogs Turn Away Rose-Hulman in Three Sets

HOUSTON, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran volleyball team took down the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers Saturday morning. The Bulldogs completed the match with a final score of 25-22, 25-22, 27-25.

The Bulldogs (4-0, 0-0 SCAC) were led by sophomore transfer Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy), who posted 10 kills, 10 digs, two blocks, and one service ace - tallying her first double-double as a Bulldog. Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) added on nine kills, four digs, and a block while Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) chipped in eight kills and a block.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) dished out 18 assists and added four digs and a service ace.

Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) finished with 18 digs and an assist.

As a team, Texas Lutheran tallied 39 kills, 59 digs, and six blocks. Rose-Hulman hit just .070 with 24 kills, nine aces, 56 digs, and three blocks.

After falling behind early in the first set, a mid-set 10-0 run from the Bulldogs saw the Bulldogs regain control of the set at 17-16. The Engineers would respond but Bulldogs were able to finish their comeback and fend off the Engineers - taking the set 25-22. Nedd, Weisinger, and Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) had three kills each with Weisinger hitting .600 for the set.

The Bulldogs had yet another tightly-contested battle in the second set but the Bulldogs would lead the set wire-to-wire. Brylie Nedd would dominate the second set with four kills.

The Engineers jumped out on the Bulldogs in the third set as they looked to avoid the sweep taking an early 7-1 lead. The Bulldogs chipped away though and used a 7-1 run of their own to get right back into the set. The two teams would go back and forth before a kill from Madison Weisinger put the match away. Sulak, Nedd, and Weisinger acted as the Bulldogs closers - combining for 10 kills in the final set.
