Texas Lutheran beats St. Thomas, 3-1

KERRVILLE, TX -- Texas Lutheran took down St. Thomas for a gritty 3-1 win, 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19, Sunday afternoon on the campus of Schreiner University to conclude the SCAC Divisional Weekend.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-2 on the weekend and 15-11 (6-6 SCAC) on the season. With the victory, the Bulldogs maintained their 4th-seed ranking in the conference heading into the final conference weekend. The Bulldogs had a season high 15 blocks in the match.

Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) led the Bulldogs with a 10 dig-10 kill double-double - hitting .318 in the match to compile her first double-double of the season. Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) had 9 kills, 9 digs and two blocks.

Kacie Hall (Buda/Hays) finished with a season high 6 digs in addition to her 8 kills and 3 blocks. Tanyse Moehrig-Woodard (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) added 8 kills, 4 digs, and 3 blocks.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) dished out 25 assists and added 11 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Adrienne Galaviz (San Antonio/Harlandale) finished with 18 assists and 9 digs. Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) led Texas Lutheran with 40 digs.

Texas Lutheran found itself in a 14-12 hole in the first set before rattling off a series of 3-0 runs to take an 18-15 lead and eventually win the set 25-22. The Bulldogs trailed throughout the early parts of the second set trailing by as much as 13-7, but the Bulldogs battled back to take the 2nd set 25-23.

The third set once again saw the Bulldogs fall behind early - trailing 5-0 out the gate. The Bulldogs fought and made it a set that would have momentum sway back-and-forth before the Celts ultimately stole a hard-earned third set victory - avoiding a second sweep of the season from the Bulldogs.

The fourth set saw the Bulldogs dominant at the net securing 5 blocks in the set. After the Celts brought the set to a 12-12 tie, the BUlldog s would win 5 of the next 6 points to create a 17-13 lead. The Bulldogs wouldn't look back from this stretch as they closed the match with a 25-19 fourth set victory.

The Bulldogs return to the "Dog House" for the final regular season weekend. The Bulldogs will face Austin College on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 11 AM in Memorial Gymnasium to open the weekend's festivities that will see Austin College, Centenary College, Colorado College, and University of Dallas travel to Seguin in what will be a busy weekend on campus.
