Texas Lutheran Beats Schreiner in Four

KERRVILLE, TX -- Texas Lutheran volleyball rallied from dropping the first set to beat Schreiner University, 3-1, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-22, Sunday morning at the Schreiner Event Center.

The Bulldogs block was active with 9 blocks - holding Schreiner to a .121 hitting percentage.

The Bulldogs had a balanced attack with three Bulldogs tallying double digit kills. Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) led the Bulldogs with 14 kills. Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) finished with 13 kills and 2 blocks & Tanyse Moehrig-Woodard (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) finished with 12 kills while adding 8 digs and a block. Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) led the team with 6 total blocks.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) and Adrienne Galaviz (San Antonio/Harlandale) finished with double doubles with both dishing out 24 assists with Galaviz finishing with 14 digs and Respondek adding 10.

Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) led the team with 34 digs, while Paige Day (San Antonio/Reagan) finished with 21 digs, 6 kills, and a block.

Texas Lutheran started the first set with a 3-1 lead before the Mountaineers came alive - flipping the momentum to keep it a tightly contested first set that the Mountaineers would close to take a 1-0 lead. The second set would stay tight throughout with no team gaining more than a two point advantage but a kill from Paige Day sealed the second set for the Bulldogs 25-23. In the third set, the Bulldogs were able to capitalize on their hot start - getting out to a nice lead and cruising to a third set victory. The fourth set closely resembled the fourth set as it was tight throughout. The Bulldogs attempted to pull away and cruise but a Schreiner response made it close in the end but the Bulldogs were able to close the set 25-23 for a 3-1 match victory.
