Texas Lutheran Wins Home Opener Over Huston-Tillotson 3-1

SEGUIN, TX -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball took down Huston-Tillotson in their 2021 home opener, 25-15, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16, on Thursday night at Memorial Gymnasium to complete a season sweep of the Rams.

The Bulldogs improved to 12-9 on the season. Texas Lutheran had a season high 26 blocks in the match and outhit the Rams .175 to .082.

Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) led Texas Lutheran with 10 kills and hit .318 in the match. She also had 6 blocks on the night to co-lead the Bulldogs with Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood). In addition to her 6 blocks, Weisinger would add 8 kills and 3 digs. Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) led Texas Lutheran with 14 digs adding 2 assists.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) dished out 19 assists and added 8 digs and 3 service aces - leading the Bulldogs.

With a thunderous crowd behind them, the Bulldogs dominated the Rams throughout the first two sets. The Rams kept hope alive in the third set - avoiding a similar fate to their September 29th - winning the third set and preventing yet another Bulldogs sweep. The Bulldogs returned to the floor in the fourth set and handily put the Rams away - winning 9 of the final 10 points to close the match.

The Bulldogs continue their home stand next week as they face Our Lady of the Lake in non-conference action Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 4 & 6 PM at Memorial Gymnasium. All streaming and stat links can be found at tlubulldogs.com.
