Bulldogs Topple Dallas Crusaders 3-0
SHERMAN, TX -- Tanyse Moehrig-Woodard (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) recorded 11 kills to lead Texas Lutheran Volleyball over University of Dallas 25-20, 25-8, 25-9 Saturday afternoon in Sherman, Texas on the campus of Austin College.
Texas Lutheran had 36 kills and hit .260 with 7 aces and 64 digs. Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) and Kacie Hall (Buda/Hays) contributed six and five kills respectively. Paige Day (San Antonio/Reagan) led the Bulldogs with 12 digs and 2 aces, sharing the team lead with Celie Contreras (San Marcos/San Marcos), Day also added 4 kills. Adrienne Galaviz (San Antonio/Harlandale) tallied 16 assists to lead the team.
The Bulldogs held the Crusaders to a -.009 hitting percentage. With the loss, Dallas moves to 6-12, 2-6 in the SCAC.
The Bulldogs came out strong and took an early 9-3 lead off a 6-0 scoring run forcing Dallas to call its first timeout of the set. The two teams went back and forth after the timeout but the Bulldogs were able to keep the Crusaders at bay with their lead never shrinking to less than 2 points before pulling away to win the first set.
Texas Lutheran carried its momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 12-6 lead - forcing yet another Dallas timeout. The Bulldogs stayed hot throughout the duration of the set closing the set on a 13-1 scoring run.
Texas Lutheran continued its strong play in the third set, taking an early 9-5 lead. After a Dallas point, TLU would go on a 5-0 run to extend its lead to 14-6 forcing yet another Dallas timeout in the process. The Bulldogs remained in full control, closing the match on an 8-1 run to complete the sweep with a 25-9 win, hitting a match high .382 in the final set.
With the win, Texas Lutheran earned it's 9th sweep of the season and improves to an 11-8 record, 4-4 in the SCAC. Up next, the Bulldogs are on the road to face the Crusaders of University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 6 PM.
