Volleyball Sweeps Centenary

SHERMAN, TX -- Texas Lutheran University Volleyball moved to .500 in conference play with a sweep of Centenary (LA), 25-16, 25-13, 25-20 on Friday on the campus at Austin College.

The Bulldogs outhit the Gents .220 to .147 and 41 to only 29 from the Ladies Texas Lutheran was outstanding from the service line, finishing with 8 aces in the match.

Tanyse Moehrig-Woodard (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) had another great match, leading Texas Lutheran with 12 kills and hitting .611 in the match. Moehrig-Woodard also led the Bulldogs in points with 12.

Hayden Smyers (Needville/Needville) had another great all-around match, finishing with 8 kills, 6 digs, 2 service aces, and a block. Fellow Needville native Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) finished with 6 kills, 3 blocks, 2 digs and an ace. Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) had 7 kills, 2 digs, and a block while Kacie Hall (Buda/Hays) finished with 4 kills and 2 blocks.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) led the team with 20 assists - adding 7 digs and 3 aces while Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) led the Bulldogs with 21 digs. Adrienne Galaviz (San Antonio/Harlandale) had 10 assists, 3 digs and 2 service aces.

Texas Lutheran set the tone early - opening the match on a 9-2 run. The Bulldogs never looked back leading the first set wire to wire.

A strong second set from Smyers at the service line and beyond allowed the Bulldogs to cruise to a second set victory to go up 2-0. The third set was more of the same as Texas Lutheran finished off the Ladies 25-20.
