Texas Lutheran sweeps St. Thomas

HOUSTON, TX -- Texas Lutheran closed their second SCAC Divisional weekend with an emphatic 3-0 sweep of St. Thomas 25-19, 25-9, 25-21, Saturday night on the road at the Jerabeck Athletic Center on the campus of St. Thomas University. Tonight's sweep made for their 7th of the season.

The Bulldogs hit .212 in the match and held the Celts to a lowly .066 hitting percentage.

Hayden Smyers (Needville/Needville) led Texas Lutheran with 9 kills and hit .250 in the match in addition to 10 digs, while Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) finished with 7 kills, 13 digs, 3 service aces, and 2 blocks.

Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) had a strong night in the middle finishing with 5 blocks and 2 kills. Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) added 8 kills, 3 digs, and 3 blocks.

Adrienne Galaviz (San Antonio/Harlandale) dished out 15 assists and had 8 digs and 1 kill while Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) had 13 assists, 5 digs and 4 service aces. Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) added 15 digs to lead the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs went up 23-12 in the first set before holding off a late rally from the Celts to go up 1-0. 

The Bulldogs carried that momentum into what made for a dominant second set - finishing the set on a 9-0 run. The final set was closer throughout but Texas Lutheran inevitably pulled away to close the match.

Texas Lutheran will be on the road once again for their third SCAC Divisional weekend as they travel to Sherman, Texas, for three matches next weekend starting with a match vs. Centenary (LA) at 1PM Friday.
