Bulldogs fall to Whitworth 3-1 to wrap Trinity Fall Classic

SAN ANTONIO, TX -- Texas Lutheran volleyball fell Saturday morning to the Whitworth University Pirates losing 3 sets to 1 in their final match, 19-25, 25-23, 19-25, 18-25 in the Trinity Fall Classic.

It was a day defined by runs as both teams traded momentum throughout the Saturday morning match. The Bulldogs jumped out early but as the teams traded momentum the Pirates were able to battle back and take the 1st set.

The 2nd set was dominated by the Bulldogs seniors as seniors Kacie Hall (Buda/Hays), Hayden Smyers (Needville/Needville), and Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) led the Bulldogs response as Texas Lutheran tied the match at 1 set a piece.

The Bulldogs fought admirably in the final two sets but the Pirates were able to pull away in each of the final two sets.

Senior Hayden Smyers and junior Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) led the Bulldogs in kills - both finishing with 9. Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) once again led the Bulldogs in digs with 35 while freshman Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) upped her career high in assists to 18.

The Bulldogs move to 2-1 and will be on the road next week to take on Rhodes College Friday in Memphis, TN as a part of the Rhodes College Classic.
