Volleyball sweeps ETBU to move to 2-0

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Volleyball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a sweep of East Texas Baptist University, 25-18, 25-12, 25-16 Friday night at Trinity University as a part of the 2021 Trinity Fall Classic.

The Bulldogs will wrap up their tournament games tomorrow morning against Whitworth University at 10 AM in Calgaard Gymnasium at Trinity University.

The Bulldogs dominated at the service line, finishing the match with 7 aces to 0 for the Tigers of East Texas Baptist. Senior middle blocker Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) had a strong match leading the squad with 3 aces to go along with 8 blocks - playing a major role in the Tigers -.045 hitting percentage - and 7 kills.

Junior Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) emerged to lead the Bulldogs in kills - finishing with 11 in the match and hitting .400. Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) had 7 kills alongside Weisinger.

Freshman Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) once again led the Bulldogs in assists dishing out 16 assists in the match - not quite matching her 17 assists from her first college match while junior Adrinne Galaviz (San Antonio/Harlandale) had 12 assists in the match. Senior Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) had a team-high 17 digs; junior Celie Contreras (San Marcos/San Marcos) contributed 10 digs.

The Bulldogs led the 1st and 3rd sets wire to wire including a 1st set that saw the Bulldogs jump out to a 16-9 lead before cruising to a 25-12 win in the second set. 

The Bulldogs moved to 2-0 and look to finish the weekend with a clean sweep.
