Comeback win in early match sparks Texas Lutheran to two wins over Schreiner

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran erased three match points against Schreiner in a five-set win over the Mountaineers in the early match Tuesday, and then the Bulldogs rolled to a three-set win in the late match to complete the doubleheader sweep.
 
The Bulldogs won 25-16, 20-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-11 in the first contest and won 25-23, 25-11, 25-21 in the late match.
 
TLU improved to 3-11 overall and to 3-11 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Schreiner dropped to 3-11 overall and to 3-11 in the SCAC.
 
The Bulldogs trailed 24-11 in the fourth set of the early match. Keriann Kallus started the comeback with a kill to make it 24-22.
 
TLU moved within a point after a ball-handling error on the Mountaineers, and Tanyse Moehrig took the set to 24-24 with a kill on the next point.
 
Lexi Morris then served an ace to give TLU its first set point, and Kacie Hall and Madison Weisinger closed out the set with a block.
 
Hayden Smyers led TLU with 15 kills, and Weisinger and Moehrig added 13 and 11, respectively.
 
Hall and Adrienne Galaviz combined for 52 assists. Hall had 28, and Galaviz collected 24. 
 
Morris recorded 27 digs and served a match-high six aces. 
 
TLU hit .147 for the match and held Schreiner to .106. Weisinger and Hall had five and four block assists, respectively.
 
In the late match, the Bulldogs hit .235 and limited Schreiner to .057.
 
Weisinger hit .500 for the Bulldogs with 10 kills and just two errors in 16 attempts. She added a pair of block assists. Smyers and Moehrig contributed 10 and nine kills, respectively.
 
Hall dished out 20 assists, and Galaviz tallied 16. Galaviz and Paige Day each had two aces. Morris registered 14 digs, and Smyers had 13.
 
TLU hit .220 or better in each of the three sets of the second match.
 
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday in TLU's Memorial Gymnasium. TLU plays host to the University of Dallas at 10 a.m. and at 2 p.m.
