Bulldogs Compete in Saints Last Chance Meet

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran women's track and field competed in the Saints Last Chance Invitational Meet hosted by Our Lady of the Lake at Holy Cross High School in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday as they continued a series of last chance meets as they prepare for the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 26-28.

Leilani Lopez (San Antonio/St. Anthony Catholic) and Sirena Gomez (Robstown/Banquete) registered top five finishes in the 100m dash with Lopez finishing third with a time of 12.77 seconds and Gomez following close behind at 12.81 seconds to finish fourth.

Due to a relatively small field of teams, Texas Lutheran's 4x100m relay team comprised of Gomez, Taylor Norrell (Lake Jackson/Brazosport), Lily Dawson (Lott/Rosebudlott), and Lopez ran alone in the event - finishing in 49.97 seconds.

Julissa Rodriguez (Deer Park/Deer Park). won her lone throwing event - winning the shot put with a mark of 12.86-meters.

Coach Holland's Comments: "This was the first time we've ever been to a track & field meet hosted by OLLU. They don't have a facility, so they used a brand new facility at a high school nearby. It wasn't the best for a few of the events we were trying to qualify for NCAAs in, but we still got in there and competed. 

On the women's side, we competed well, but the competition wasn't there in the events we were trying to hit NCAA marks in. The toughest was that our women's 4x100 relay had to run alone. We were really looking forward to lowering our time, but had nobody racing us. Julissa Rodriguez had one competitor in the shot put. She pushed herself and threw well, but the sense of "competition" really wasn't there in that event either."
