Women's Track and Field Opens SCAC Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's track and field program opened the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships with season bests and individual championships on Saturday at the Multi-Sport Stadium on the campus of Trinity University. Texas Lutheran sits in third in the women's standings with 70 points.

Freshman Julissa Rodriguez (Deer Park/Deer Park) scored first for Texas Lutheran on Saturday, tallying 10 points behind a first-place effort in the shot put - winning the event with a mark of 11.98-meters. Maya Flax (Port Arthur/Memorial) would pick up four points with a fourth place finish in the shotput with a personal record of 10.79-meters.

Lily Dawson (Lott/Rosebudlott) and Brenna Iannelli (La Grange/La Grange), the reigning SCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, added seven points for the Bulldogs with third and fifth place finishes respectively in the pole vault. Dawson finished with a season-best mark of 3.05-meters while Iannelli finished with a mark of 2.90 meters, also a season-best.

The combination of Dejah Carr (Houston/Channelview), Julissa Rodriguez, and Gizelle Gutierrez (Pharr/PSJA North) combined to push Texas Lutheran's total to 39 with their efforts in the hammer throw. Carr won her fourth consecutive SCAC Championship in the hammer throw with a 45.08m mark.

Brenna Iannelli added eight more points with a runner-up finish in the 400m hurdles finishing with a season-best time of 1:06.83 seconds.

Leilani Lopez (San Antonio/ St. Anthony Catholic) - who sat atop the SCAC leaderboard entering the Championships - won the 200m dash with a time of 25.68 seconds, two-hundredths of a second off her personal best. Sirena Gomez (Robstown/Banquete) finished fourth in the 200 adding four points to the Bulldogs team total.
