Speyrer Sisters Highlight Day Two of ITA Regionals

ABILENE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's tennis team competed in day two of the 2023 ITA Southwest Regional Championships hosted by Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas on Friday.

Ashley Medellin and Abbie Speyrer (Shallowater/Shallowater) picked up an opening round win, 8-5, over University of Dallas in the opening round of Flight B. The team of Christa Bennett (Tarkington/Deer Park) and Lindsay Beville (New Braunfels/Canyon) - the only TLU team in the doubles A flight - dropped their opening match, 8-1. Bennett and Beville would also fall in their singles matches in the consolation bracket of the A Draw.

Abbie Speyrer also picked up a win in singles action. After advancing to the quarterfinals of her flight by default, Speyrer would win her match against Dallas, 6-4, 7-6 (winning the tiebreaker 7-3). Her sister Allie Speyrer (Shallowater/Shallowater) would also win her quarterfinal match 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 to advance to the semifinals of her flight.

The ITA Southwest Regional Championships continue on Saturday with the Bulldogs competing in singles and doubles competition.
