Women's Tennis Defeats Sul Ross State, 8-1

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran women's tennis improved to 3-10 Friday afternoon after defeating Sul Ross State 8-1 at the Ohlenbusch-Rinn Tennis Center.

Texas Lutheran swept the doubles matches for the third time this season, and for the second time in as many days. The team of Elena Brancaleon (San Antonio/Brandeis) and Christa Bennett (Deer Park/Deer Park), the SCAC Doubles Players of the Week earlier this month, would pick up their second win together as a team winning their match, 8-4. Victoria Gonzalez (Harlingen/Harlingen) kept her hot hand in doubles competition - winning her fourth straight doubles match - this time with reforming her partnership with Haley Hoffmann (Seguin/Navarro) to win 8-2. On the season, Gonzalez has six doubles wins, three with Haley Hoffmann (Seguin/Navarro) and three with Bennett. Cooper Lindstrom (San Antonio/TMI Episcopal) and Allie Speyrer (Shallowater/Shallowater) would win their doubles match in straight sets, 8-0, for their first win of the season.

Texas Lutheran would win five of six singles matches. After missing last season due to injury, Cooper Lindstrom would earn her first singles win of her TLU career, winning 6-2, 6-0. Kaitlyn Enloe (Seguin/Seguin) would win her third consecutive singles match, winning in straight sets. Victoria Gonzalez would need a decisive third set for the second day in a row, winning 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. Paula Acosta and Christa Bennett would each win their third singles matches of the season.

Texas Lutheran will return to SCAC play on Saturday, April 1, as they travel to Kerrville to play the Schreiner Mountaineers at 10 AM.
