Women's Tennis Defeats Sul Ross State, 8-1

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran women's tennis improved to 2-10 Thursday evening after defeating Sul Ross State 8-1 at the Ohlenbusch-Rinn Tennis Center.

Texas Lutheran swept the doubles matches for the second time this season. The team of Victoria Gonzalez (Harlingen/Harlingen) and Christa Bennett (Deer Park/Deer Park) would pick up their second consecutive win and third doubles victory as a team on the season, winning their match, 8-4. The match made for Gonzalez's third straight doubles win. On the season, Gonzalez has five doubles wins, two with Haley Hoffmann (Seguin/Navarro) and three with Bennett. Kaitlyn Enloe (Seguin/Seguin) and Paula Acosta (Katy/Cinco Ranch) would win their doubles match in straight sets, 8-0, while the team of Abbie Speyrer (Shallowater/Shallowater) and Kayleigh Gardner (El Campo/El Campo) would win their first match as a team, 8-3.

Texas Lutheran would win five of six singles matches - with their only loss coming due to retirement. Kayleigh Gardner would win her first win of the season in straight sets. Kaitlyn Enloe would win her second consecutive singles match, winning in straight sets as well. Victoria Gonzalez would play an extensive three-set match, winning 6-3, 6-7 and finally 14-12 in the final decisive set. Paula Acosta and Christa Bennett would each win their second singles matches of the season.

Texas Lutheran will face Sul Ross State in a rematch on Friday, March 31, at 1 PM at Ohlenbusch-Rinn Tennis Center.
