Women's Tennis Blanks Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran women's tennis earned a 9-0 victory over Austin College on Saturday in a SCAC women's tennis match at Russell Tennis Center in Sherman, Texas. The win marks the first win under first-year head coach David Mueller.

Texas Lutheran improves to 1-6 on the season and 1-2 within league play. Austin College falls to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The sweep is the first for the program since a 9-0 win over Howard Payne on Feb. 8, 2020 and also marks the first conference win and conference sweep since a 9-0 victory over Centenary College on Feb. 2, 2020.

Junior Elena Brancaleon (San Antonio/Brandeis) and freshman Christa Bennett (Deer Park/Deer Park) got the Bulldogs rolling, winning their doubles match, 8-6. While not to be outdone, seniors Kaitlyn Enloe (Seguin/Seguin) and Paula Acosta (Katy/Cinco Ranch) won 8-6 as well. The team of Victoria Gonzalez (Harlingen/Harlingen) and Haley Hoffmann (Seguin/Navarro) won by default.

Brancaleon, Gonzalez, Acosta and Bennett all made quick work of the 'Roos, securing the singles points to win the match. Haley Hoffmann would be pushed to a third set before ultimately winning 6-7, 6-0, 10-8 to cap the sweep for the Bulldogs.

All singles and doubles wins would be the first of the 2023 season. Victoria Gonzalez and Christa Bennett would each earn their first collegiate singles wins on Saturday.

Texas Lutheran will welcome Concordia University (TX) to Ohlenbusch-Rinn Tennis Center on Friday, March 10, at 3 PM for non-conference action.
