Four Bulldogs Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

SEGUIN, Texas --- Four members of the Texas Lutheran women's soccer team were named to the 2024 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, as announced by College Sports Communicators, formerly known as CoSIDA, on Tuesday.

Sophomore midfielder Natalia Cortez (Edinburg/Robert Vela), sophomore goalkeeper Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop), sophomore midfielder Caitlin Roach (Manvel/Manvel), and junior defender Ashlyn Suarez (Schertz/Clemens) were recognized for their success on the field and in the classroom. The four honorees are the first under head coach Kerwin Johnson and the first for the TLU women's soccer team since 2016. In total, TLU women's soccer has earned six Academic All-District honors since joining the SCAC.

Cortez, a Psychology major from Edinburg, carries a 3.64 GPA and was an All-SCAC Second Team honoree this season. Cortez finished the season with two goals including a goal in the SCAC Semifinal match against Concordia (TX).

Marquez, a Psychology major from Miami, Florida, carries a 3.82 GPA and earned All-SCAC Honorable Mention honors for the second straight season. It was a breakout season for the TLU goalkeeper, starting all 20 matches for the Bulldogs and playing 1469:50 in goal. Marquez finished the season with 5.5 shutouts and matched the program record with 13 goalkeeper wins in a single-season.

Roach, a Molecular Biology major from Manvel, carries a 3.5 GPA and followed up being the SCAC Newcomer of the Year in 2023 with All-SCAC Honorable Mention honors in 2024. Roach tallied one assist across 18 matches in 2024.

Suarez, a Nursing major from Schertz, carries a 3.55 GPA and earned her second All-SCAC honor of her career in 2024 as the defender was named All-SCAC Honorable Mention. Suarez scored the first two goals of her career in 2024 and started all 20 matches for the Bulldogs on the backline. Under her watch, the Bulldog backline limited opponents to 0.99 goals per game. She was also named to the SCAC Academic Honor Roll her freshman season.

The four All-District honorees will be considered by the CSC committee for inclusion on the Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America team will be named on December 11, 2024.
