Simien Becomes SCAC's First Three-Time Player of the Year; Record 12 Bulldogs Honored

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Postseason Awards were announced on Friday and a program record 12 Bulldogs were honored including Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren) being named SCAC Offensive Player of the Year for a SCAC record third time.

Alyssa Simien becomes the first player in SCAC history to be named Offensive Player of the Year three times, earning the honor in back-to-back-to-back seasons over her three seasons as a Bulldog. Simien ended the 2024 regular season leading the SCAC in goals (13) and points (34) and ranking third in assists (8). Four of her goals this season have been game winners, ranking third in the SCAC. For her career, Simien has 40 goals and 95 points - ranking fourth all-time in TLU's history in both categories. Simien was also named to the All-SCAC First Team for the third time in her career.

Joining Simien on the first team was junior defender Jessica Robinson (Cibolo/Steele), who earns her first career All-SCAC honor, and senior midfielder Kelly Wolfe (San Antonio/Churchill). Robinson and Wolfe, who were both named team captains prior to the season, both played a pivotal role in a Bulldogs defense who allowed the second fewest goals in the conference over the course of the 2024 regular season. Wolfe, who earns her sixth SCAC honor and second All-SCAC First Team honor, became Texas Lutheran's all-time leader in games played and games started with her 81st career match in the regular season finale while adding two goals and two assists offensively this season.

Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy), Natalia Cortez (Edinburg/Robert Vela), and Noelani Ajel (Cibolo/Steele) were named to the All-SCAC Second Team. Martinez leads the Bulldogs with nine assists on the season, ranking second in the SCAC, with the total just two shy of matching Katie Buehler's TLU single-season assist record. Martinez also is second on the team with six goals and 21 points. Ajel was one of two freshmen named to an All-SCAC team, joining SCAC Newcomer of the Year Kylie Harris who was named to the First Team, scoring one goal while being a defensive force on the Bulldogs back line. Ajel would also be named to the SCAC All-Freshman Team. Cortez scored her lone goal of the season, a game winner against UT-Dallas, on Sept. 15.

Ashlyn Suarez (Schertz/Clemens), Callie Brame (San Antonio/Churchill), Caitlin Roach (Manvel/Manvel), and Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) were all named All-SCAC Honorable Mention. This is the second All-SCAC honor for all four Bulldogs. Brame currently ranks third on the team with seven assists this season while adding five goals. Marquez is having one of the best seasons in-goal for the Bulldogs in recent memory - touting 12 wins and 5.5 shutouts. With the 12 wins, Marquez is only the third Bulldog to earn double-digit goalkeeper wins in a single-season joining Katie Kistner and Erin Rose and with a win on Friday would match Kistner's single-season record of 13 goalkeeper wins.

Ajel would be joined by Lilly Noblett (San Antonio/Warren) and Emma Alvarado (Buda/Johnson) on the SCAC All-Freshman Team. Noblett finished in the top 15 in the SCAC in goals (5) and points (12) as a freshman, ranking third and fourth on the team respectively while Alvarado tallied two goals as a freshman this season.
