Simien's Second Hat Trick of Weekend Leads TLU to 6-0 Win on Senior Day
SEGUIN, Texas -- Behind a hat trick from senior Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren), Texas Lutheran (10-5-1, 6-2 SCAC) posted a 6-0 victory over Centenary on Sunday at Gustafson Field.
Simien's hat trick was her second of the weekend, third of her career, and the 28th in program history. Simien is the first Bulldog in program history to record two hat tricks in the same weekend and her three career hat tricks tie Kelli Layden, Sioned Kirkpatrick, and Angie Valencia for the second most in program history - only trailing Casey Rheman's five.
Simien scored the game's first goal unassisted in the sixth minute which acted as the match's game-winner. The game-winner is Simien's 13th in her career, tying her with Kelli Layden for third in program history. Her second goal, in the 17th minute, came via an assist from Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy), her eighth assist of the season. With eight assists, Martinez moves into a tie for third for the most assists in a single-season in program history. Simien completed the hat trick in the 51st minute, giving TLU a 5-0 lead as she brought her weekend total to six goals, two assists, and 14 total points.
Three other Bulldogs got in on the scoring action, with two scoring their first goals as Bulldogs. Freshman Alyssa Ibanez (San Antonio/Judson) scored in the 41st minute via an assist from Brooklyn Keily (Round Rock/McNeil) for her first collegiate goal. Senior Kelly Wolfe (San Antonio/Churchill) would net her second goal of the season in the 50th minute via an assist from Simien. Senior UTSA transfer Ariana Gomez (San Antonio/Randolph) scored her first goal as a Bulldog for the final goal of the afternoon in the 83rd minute as she sprinted away from the Ladies and scored in her one-on-one with the Centenary goalkeeper following a goal kick from Charleigh Phipps and a pass from Tila Hendrus (New Braunfels/Canyon) leading to a double assist.
The Bulldogs enjoyed a 35-1 shot advantage in the game and had 19 shots on goal. Simien led the way with seven shots on goal, tying for the third most in a single-match in program history and the most since Samantha Martinez's seven in 2021. Texas Lutheran goalkeepers Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) and Charleigh Phipps (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) split the shutout without having to make a single save. Marquez picked up the win, her tenth of the season, tying her for the third most in a single-season in program history and it is the most by a single women's soccer keeper since Erin Rose's ten wins in 2015. Marquez currently has 4.5 shutouts on the season, also tying her for the third most in a single-season in program history.
A total of 23 Bulldogs saw action in the game.
