Bulldogs Sink Pirates, 3-1

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran women's soccer knocked off Southwestern, 3-1, at Gustafson Field in non-conference action to pick up their first home win of the season.

TLU moves to 3-3-1 with the win while Southwestern drops to 2-4-1.

Despite trailing in the shot count, 17-15, the Bulldogs found the back of the net three times Friday night. Junior midfielder Callie Brame (San Antonio/Churchill) scored her second goal of the season via an assist from Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren) to break the ice in the 24th minute. Simien and freshman Emma Alvarado (Buda/Johnson) each recorded their goals in the second half.

Brame's goal would be the difference through 45 minutes as TLU carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Emma Alvarado would score the first goal of her collegiate career in the 57th minute via an assist from Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) to double the TLU lead. Simien would push the Bulldogs lead to 3-0 in the 62nd minute coming off Martinez's second assist of the night. The two assists are the most in a single-match thus far in Martinez's career.

After numerous attempts fell short, the Pirates would score in the 85th minute to avoid the shutout. Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) earned the win in-goal in 90 minutes of play, recording eight saves on the night. Marquez currently leads the SCAC with 42 saves on the season.
