Bulldogs Record First Shutout in 0-0 Draw against Trinity

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran recorded its first shutout of the 2024 season, playing a 0-0 tie against Trinity. The shutout also marks the first shutout of the Tigers in program history as well as the first tie against the Tigers as the Bulldogs entered the match 0-27 against Trinity in program history. Sophomore Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) was outstanding in-goal, making a career-high ten saves, including four in the second half.

Marquez, an All-SCAC Honorable Mention goalkeeper as a freshman, is the first Bulldog to record double-digit saves in-goal since Elena Rivera against St. Mary's during the Spring 2021 COVID season.

Trinity outshot the Bulldogs (0-1-1), 22-9, and had an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. Of the six off target shots for the Bulldogs, they would bring Bulldogs fans to their feet at Gustafson Field and miss just wide.

Trinity applied pressure early in the game, dominating possession, but Marquez and the TLU back line came up big each time, tallying six saves in the first half.

The Bulldogs flipped the script in the second half, controlling much of the second half despite being out shot 9-7. The Bulldogs had chances in the 60th, 78th, and 89th minutes but were turned away by Trinity goalkeeper Lauryn Lewis. Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren) led the Bulldogs with three shots with two being on target.

Marquez and the Bulldogs defense made important stops in the second half as well with the Bulldogs turning away Trinity shots as late as the 86th minute. The TLU back line led by All-SCAC defender Ashlyn Suarez (Schertz/Clemens), junior transfer Abby Castelli (Cedar Park/Cedar Park), and freshman Noelani Ajel (Cibolo/Steele) kept a generally explosive Trinity offense at bay - clearing second balls and forcing goal kicks throughout the night.

Texas Lutheran returns to the pitch on Sunday as they begin a three-match road trip with a neutral site match against Division-II Sul Ross State in Eagle Pass, Texas at 6 PM. The match will not be live streamed but live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
