Bulldogs Claim 3-0 Victory on Senior Day

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's soccer team earned a 3-0 Senior Day victory over Dallas on Sunday at Gustafson Field. Senior Savannah Rush (Yuma, AZ/Yuma Catholic) provided the perfect ending to the game, scoring her first goal of the season in the 74th minute via an assist from fellow senior Kelly Wolfe (San Antonio/Churchill). Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) scored the game-winner in the sixth minute and Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren) added a goal in the 70th minute.

The Bulldogs (8-4-4, 4-1-1 SCAC) outshot the Crusaders 13-9, with four Crusaders shots being on goal. Goalkeeper Charleigh Phipps (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) earned the shutout victory, TLU's fourth of the season. Phipps had four saves in the match, eclipsing the 100 career save mark for her career - bringing her career tally to 103 and moving into eighth all-time in program history.

TLU had the run of play forcing the Crusaders goalkeeper into four saves. The Bulldogs got on the board early as a sixth minute free kick from Alyssa Simien was headed in by Klarissa Martinez as the SCAC's two leading goal scorers connected on the game's opening goal.

Simien, who moved into sixth all-time in career points in program history with 59 on Sunday, doubled the Bulldogs' lead in the 70th minute - pushing one past the Crusaders keeper for her second of the weekend and 10th of the season.

Savannah Rush put the cherry on top in the 74th minute, scoring her first goal of the season and third of her career, via an assist from fellow senior Kelly Wolfe.

Prior to Sunday's match, Texas Lutheran honored its six seniors: Delaney Lyle (Austin/Hendrickson), Madison Johnson (Pflugerville/Hendrickson), Savannah Rush (Yuma, AZ/Yuma Catholic), Leilani Sanchez (McAllen/McAllen Memorial), Kelly Wolfe, and Katherine Banda-Segura (Lockhart/Lockhart) for their contributions to the TLU Women's Soccer program.
