Bulldogs Topped by Trinity, 2-1, Sunday

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran women's soccer fell to Trinity, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Gustafson Field.

TLU falls to 6-4-4 (2-1-1 SCAC) with the loss, while Trinity moves to 7-4-2 (4-0-0 SCAC).

Trinity led the shot count, 18-4, and held a 6-2 shots on goal advantage as well as an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The opening 30 minutes were a defensive battle as Trinity had the only shot on goal out of four shot attempts between the two teams. Trinity would fire off two quick goals in succession in the 34th and 37th minutes to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

TLU began to swing the possession battle in the second half and cut the Tigers lead in half on a 65th minute goal from Elaina Barrientes (Lubbock/Coronado) via an assist from Bailey Havens (Friendswood/Friendswood). Barrientes would have one more shot on a free kick in the 82nd minute that would sail high and would be the Bulldogs final scoring opportunity of the match.

Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Bulldogs and recorded four saves in the loss.

Up next, Texas Lutheran travels to Sherman for an important SCAC matchup with the Austin College 'Roos as the two teams enter the final stretch of regular season matches. The match is set to kick off at 6 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
