Martinez Named SCAC Offensive Player of the Week

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran midfielder Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) made her presence felt to open SCAC play this weekend as the Bulldogs went 2-0 to sweep the weekend. For the first time in her career, Martinez has been named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Offensive Player of the Week.

Martinez has been a major part of the Bulldogs offense in 2023. Martinez recorded the lone goal in TLU's 1-0 shutout of Centenary on Friday and followed up with a goal in the Bulldogs 2-0 victory over St. Thomas.

The sophomore has been on fire as of late, rising to second in scoring in the SCAC with six goals on the season. She now has seven points over the Bulldogs last four matches. Martinez also ranks second in the SCAC and on the team in points with 13 on the season.

This is the first career weekly honor in Martinez's career after being named to the All-SCAC Second team. and All-Freshman team last season.
