TLU Takes Down St. Thomas On The Road, 2-0

HOUSTON, Texas -- Junior Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren) contributed a game-winning goal in the 61st minute as Texas Lutheran (6-3-3, 2-0 SCAC) earned their second straight shutout victory with a 2-0 win over the St. Thomas Celts Sunday afternoon at Sabercats Stadium, the site of the 2023 SCAC Championship Tournament.

The goal, Simien's SCAC-leading eighth goal of the season, broke the scoreless tie and earned Simien her SCAC-leading third game-winner of the season. With the goal, Simien moved into a tie for sixth all-time with former Bulldog, Sunny Valencia (2008-09, 2011-12).

Junior Callie Brame (San Antonio/Churchill) was credited with the assist, her third of the season which ties her for second in the SCAC.

Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) doubled up TLU's lead 10 minutes later in the 71st minute with her sixth goal of the season and second goal of the weekend. Elaina Barrientes (Lubbock/Coronado) set her up on the goal for her first assist of the season.

The Bulldogs defense kept the Celts (1-2-4, 0-1-1 SCAC) at bay as Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) made three saves for her second consecutive clean sheet. TLU limited St. Thomas to just three shots on goal and five shots overall.

TLU's offense peppered St. Thomas with 14 shots, including three on goal. Callie Brame led the Bulldogs with six shots.

The Bulldogs return home to host Schreiner on Friday, Oct. 13. The game will kick off at 7 PM and can be streamed on TLU's YouTube Channel, TLU+. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
