Martinez's Game Winner Lifts TLU Past Centenary in SCAC Opener

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Sophomore Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) tallied her second game winner of the season in the 51st minute, guiding the Texas Lutheran women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Centenary in their 2023 SCAC Opener Friday night at Mayo Field on the campus of Centenary College.

With the win, Texas Lutheran improves to 5-3-3 overall and 1-0 in the SCAC.

Martinez currently ranks second in the SCAC with five goals and 11 points on the season - only trailing teammate Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren).

Texas Lutheran dominated possession and outshot the Ladies 27-1 on the night, with a 14-1 margin in shots on goal. Texas Lutheran also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Freshman goalkeeper Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) recorded one save in her first career shutout in-goal for the Bulldogs, improving her record to 3-2-2.

Texas Lutheran concludes its conference opening road trip on Sunday, Oct. 8, as they travel to Houston to face the St. Thomas Celts. The match is set to kick off at 1 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
