Women's Soccer Enjoys Record-Setting Win Over Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's soccer team (11-6-1, 11-2 SCAC) enjoyed a record-setting 2-0 victory over Schreiner (6-7-3, 5-5-3 SCAC) Friday at Mountaineer Soccer Field, setting a new program record for conference wins in a single season.

The Bulldogs have captured a program-record 11 conference wins, surpassing the previous record of 10, set by the 2004 and 2006 squads as members of the American Southwest Conference (ASC).

In addition to the team record falling, Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren), this week's United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week, officially set the program-record for most goals scored by a first-year player with her 15th goal of the season, overtaking the previous mark of 14 from Casey Rheman in 2003. Simien also moved into second all-time with six game winners in a single-season, only trailing Sioned Kirkpatrick's seven game winners in 2015.

Texas Lutheran dominated possession throughout most of the first half with Simien's 15th-minute goal giving TLU the early advantage.

TLU took the 1-0 advantage into halftime and doubled the lead in the 61st minute with Kelly Wolfe (San Antonio/Churchill) netting her fourth goal of the season and third in her last four games. Wolfe's goal would be assisted by Ana Parra (San Antonio/Brennan) - her eighth of the season. Parra moves into a tie for third all-time with eight assists in a single-season.

The Bulldogs finished with a 15-9 advantage in shots. Madison Johnson (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) picked up the victory in-goal for the Bulldogs - making two saves in the process. Elena Rivera (New Braunfels/Canyon) would make three saves in-goal in the second half for TLU.

TLU will next face 8th-ranked Trinity on the road on Sunday, Oct. 30th at Paul McGinlay Soccer Field in their final match before the 2022 SCAC Tournament. The match between the SCAC's top two teams will take place at 12 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
