TLU Beats Centenary, 4-2

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's soccer team improved to 7-6-1 (7-2 SCAC) after a 4-2 victory over Centenary (LA) at Gustafson Field Friday night.

After the Ladies (2-12-1, 2-7 SCAC) struck first with an 11th minute goal, the Bulldogs scored two unanswered goals, one by Ana Parra (San Antonio/Brennan) in the 18th minute and another by Elaina Barrientes (Lubbock/Coronado) in the 20th minute this time assisted by Parra, to move ahead 2-1. A 50th minute goal from Centenary tied the game 2-all.

Senior Samantha Martinez (Schertz/Clemens) and freshman Gabriela Varela (San Antonio/Warren) provided insurance in the form of two unanswered goals to close the match.

TLU outshot Centenary in the game 22-7 and had 12 shots on goal to the Ladies five. Elena Rivera (New Braunfels/Canyon) made three saves in goal in the first half while Charleigh Phipps (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) picked up the winning decision.

The Bulldogs continue SCAC play on Sunday, Oct. 16, as they welcome the Celts of University of St. Thomas to Gustafson Field for the 2022 home finale. Sunday will also mark senior day for the Bulldogs as they honor their graduating seniors: Elena Rivera, Olivia Campos (Austin/Del Valle), Anna Bourbonnais (The Woodlands/The Woodlands), Liliana Avila (Blanco/Blanco), Sela Boyers (Schertz/Clemens) and Samantha Martinez.
