Texas Lutheran Sinks Pirates, 2-1

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran returned to the win column Tuesday night to win their sixth match in seven matches, coming from behind to defeat the Southwestern University Pirates, 2-1, at Gustafson Field. TLU women's soccer picks up their first win over Southwestern since the Bulldogs 2-1 victory on September 28, 2018.

Sophomore Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren), led the way for the Bulldogs scoring both Texas Lutheran first half goals.

Southwestern took an early 1-0 advantage with a seventh minute goal in the opening minutes of the match.

Texas Lutheran came roaring back as Simien netted a 20th minute equalizer on a free kick.

Four minutes later, Simien would strike again - finding the back of the net on another free kick in the 24th minute to give Texas Lutheran a 2-1 lead. With the two goals, Simien moves into first in the SCAC with nine goals on the season and third in points with 20 points. Her second goal marked her third game-winning goal of the season to move her into a tie for fifth most in a single season in program history.

Madison Johnson (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) would make five saves and allow one goal in-goal for the Bulldogs.

Southwestern held the corner, and shot advantage but the Bulldogs took advantage of their chances - netting two of their four shots on goal.

With the win, Texas Lutheran improves to 6-6-1 on the season and 6-2 in SCAC play. TLU first-year head coach Kerwin Johnson now needs one win to match the highest win total in program history for a first- year women's soccer head coach - a record currently held by Tony Tommasi (2001) and previous TLU head coach Larry Schaffer (2012) of seven wins.

Texas Lutheran continues their final home stand of the season as they return to Gustafson Field on Friday, Oct. 14, as the Bulldogs face off against the Ladies of Centenary College. First kick is scheduled for 6 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
