Texas Lutheran Conquers Celts, 2-1

HOUSTON, Texas -- Texas Lutheran won its fourth consecutive match as they continued SCAC conference play Sunday afternoon, defeating the St. Thomas Celts on the road, 2-1.

The reigning SCAC Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren), led the way for the Bulldogs scoring both Texas Lutheran goals.

Simien got the Bulldogs on the board first scoring off of an assist from Ana Parra (San Antonio/Brennan) in the 30th minute. Texas Lutheran would maintain the 1-0 advantage through halftime. The Texas Lutheran defense only allowed two shots in the first half - both saved by goalkeeper Charleigh Phipps (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs).

Simien would strike again in the opening moments of the second half - scoring an unassisted goal in the 46th minute to give Texas Lutheran a 2-0 lead.

Just as it looked like the Bulldogs would continue their shutout streak, St. Thomas brought their shutout streak to an end at 372 minutes - finding the back of the net in the 85th minute to bring the match to its final score of 2-1.

St. Thomas held the possession, corner, and shot advantage but the Bulldogs took advantage of their chances - netting two of eight shots on goal.

With the win, Texas Lutheran improves to 4-5-1 on the season and 4-1 in SCAC play - the best start to SCAC play since 2015's 4-1-2 start.

Texas Lutheran returns to Gustafson Field on Friday, Oct. 7, as the Bulldogs face off against the Schreiner University Mountaineers. First kick is scheduled for 5:30 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
