Newcomers Star in TLU's 2-0 Win Over Centenary

SHREVEPORT, LA -- The present and future look bright for the Texas Lutheran women's soccer team, who had newcomers score both goals in a 2-0 win over Centenary on Friday night. Sophomore transfer Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren) scored in the first half, and freshman Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) scored in the second as the Bulldogs extended their shutout and winning streaks to three.

The Bulldogs dominated the first half, outshooting the Ladies, 8-1, netting the eventual game-winner in the 23rd minute. Alyssa Simien received a service from senior Samantha Martinez (Schertz/Clemens) and fired from beyond the box to find the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season. With the goal, Simien continues her dominant debut in the SCAC - finding the back of the net in four of seven games as a Bulldog so far.

TLU took the 1-0 advantage into halftime and doubled the lead in the 65th minute. Klarissa Martinez would score her second goal in as many matches, and her third of the season, with an unassisted goal in the 65th minute to give TLU their final advantage of 2-0.

The Bulldogs finished with a 14-9 advantage in shots. TLU goalkeeper Elena Rivera (New Braunfels/Canyon) was not tested in-goal for the third consecutive match as she picked up the win for Texas Lutheran against the Ladies, who dropped to 0-10-1.

TLU will next face St. Thomas on the road on Sunday, Oct. 2. The match will take place at Houston Sports Park at 1 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
