Texas Lutheran Downs Dallas, 4-0

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran proved to be too much for University of Dallas, picking up their first win of the season and first win under head coach Kerwin Johnson, improving to 1-5-1 by handing the Crusaders a 4-0 loss Friday night at Gustafson Field. Two Bulldogs found the back of the net in addition to a University of Dallas own-goal to give Texas Lutheran their first win of 2022 in addition to the Texas Lutheran defense, led by goalkeeper Elena Rivera (New Braunfels/Canyon), held strong for their first shutout of the season.

Freshman Ana Parra (San Antonio/Brennan) got the Bulldogs on the board first at 6:40 netting an Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren) service for her first collegiate goal. Savannah Rush (Yuma, AZ/Yuma Catholic) would tack on the Bulldogs second goal of the half at the 34:55 mark for her first goal of the season. Texas Lutheran dominated possession and allowed no clean looks at the goal in the first half with goalkeeper Elena Rivera closing the half with no saves or shots on-goal.

The Bulldogs continued their aggressive play in the second half, testing the Dallas defense. Ana Parra added her second goal of the night at 51:32, pushing the TLU lead to 3-0. Parra just narrowly missed her first career hat trick as an attempted shot at the 68-minute mark was intercepted and headed in by a Dallas defender for an own-goal to bring the game to its final score of 4-0.

The Bulldogs outshot the Crusaders, 15-3, and forced the Crusaders goalkeeper into five saves. Rivera would play 60 minutes and take the winning decision while Charleigh Phipps (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) would enter for the final 30 minutes and finish with one save.

Texas Lutheran returns to the pitch Sunday afternoon as they face Austin College at 12 PM at Gustafson Field. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
