Bulldogs Drop Match to Howard Payne, 2-1

BROWNWOOD, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's soccer team fell to the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets, 2-1, in the team's first road match of the season.

Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren) scored the Bulldogs lone goal in the 53rd minute. Elena Rivera (New Braunfels/Canyon) picked up the losing decision allowing two first half goals. Charleigh Phipps (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs), an All-SCAC Honorable Mention honoree last season, made six saves in the second half in her season debut keeping the Yellow Jackets scoreless.

The Yellow Jackets controlled play in the first half, leading the Bulldogs 6-1 in shots through 45 minutes.

After allowing two first half goals, Simien got the Bulldogs on the board in the second half, but the Yellow Jackets continued to keep the pressure on finishing with a 16-5 shot advantage.
