Texas Lutheran's Abigail Walker named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran's Abigail Walker, a freshman goalkeeper from Longview, Texas, has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, March 14.

Walker turned away eight St. Thomas shots in Friday's 1-0 conference home victory. Walker made three diving stops to keep the shutout intact on her way to making a career-high eight saves.
 
The Bulldogs scored in the 85th minute and held on for the win. Walker received the victory. The win was her second victory in goal for the Bulldogs.
 
TLU (2-3 overall, 2-1 SCAC) hosts Austin College at 5 p.m. Friday at TLU's Gustafson Field.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior goalkeeper Meredith Harris of Austin College had another outstanding game between the pipes for the 'Roos, making a season-high 10 saves against Southwestern in a narrow 1-0 loss. Freshman goalkeeper Macey Henderson of Dallas had five saves and worked her second shutout of the season to help lift the Crusaders to a 1-0 victory at Centenary on Saturday. The freshman earned second clean sheet in three games, as Dallas handed the Ladies their first loss of the year in seven outings. It was also UD's first win at Mayo Field since 2014. Freshman goalkeeper Johnna Campbell of Southwestern recorded her first career shutout last weekend in the Pirates, 1-0, win over Austin College making one save. Sophomore goalkeeper Carmen Lozada of St. Thomas made seven saves in a tough 1-0 loss to Texas Lutheran last Friday. Sophomore defender Nyah Shepherd of Trinity led the Tigers to a 4-0 shutout win over Schreiner on Saturday, anchoring a defense that allowed just two shots in the win. In addition to limiting Schreiner to just two first-half shot attempts - neither of which were on goal - Shepherd also added to the cause with a late goal that sealed the win. Shepherd found the back of the net on a free kick in the 85th minute, putting the Tigers up 3-0 with just over five minutes to play.
