Texas Lutheran Women's Soccer cruises to 4-0 home victory over Johnson & Wales - Denver

SEGUIN, Texas -- Madison Alexander (New Braunfels/Canyon) scored twice and added an assist as the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs cruised to a 4-0 home win Sunday over Johnson & Wales - Denver.
 
The match-up between two members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference was a designated non-conference match on the schedule. TLU improved to 4-2-1 overall, and JWU fell to 2-6-0.
 
Alexander, a sophomore midfielder/forward, scored the first two goals of her career. She gave TLU a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute with an assist from Josie Fountain (Portland/Gregory-Portland).
 
Alexander added her second, the fourth goal for TLU, in the 79th minute. Monique Sierra (San Antonio/Taft) contributed the assist.
 
The assist from Alexander came on the Fountain goal in the 73rd minute.
 
Mariela Candelario (San Antonio/Brandeis) gave TLU a 2-0 lead with a goal in the 66th minute. Liliana Avila (Blanco/Blanco) provided the assist.
 
The Bulldogs out-shot JWU 17-11 and had an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. 
 
TLU keeper Madison Stout (San Antonio/Southwest) made three saves and recorded her first collegiate shutout.
 
The Bulldogs continue their non-conference schedule with Thursday match at the University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Edinburg, Texas.
